Adam Gant
Real Estate Investor and Innovator
About Adam Gant
Adam Gant is a real estate investor and innovator, widely known for his home financing concept of “shared equity,” which he outlined in A House Shared, the acclaimed book he co-authored in 2020.
His record as a successful Canadian entrepreneur has also positioned him as a thought leader who is often consulted on a range of real estate specialties, including residential, retail, office, industrial, hospitality, land development and senior care.
His passion for making affordable housing easier to access extends to his philanthropic work with charities that are focused on shelter, education and empowerment in the Western Hemisphere.
Originally from Kelowna, British Columbia in the Okanagan Valley, Adam Gant studied engineering physics at the University of British Columbia, where he developed an interest in the fields of real estate development, finance and investment.
Adam Gant was also a member of the class of 2011 EO Entrepreneurial Masters hosted by MIT at the Endicott College in Boston.
He has also gained extensive knowledge in the field by attending numerous executive education programs, including “Mergers and Acquisitions” and "Financial Management” at the Wharton School of Business.
He has a depth of experience with both privately held real estate funds and public real estate investment vehicles. He has lived and worked in cities across the globe, from Southeast Asia and Singapore to Eastern Europe.
As with many in the industry, the 2008-2009 worldwide credit crisis was a wake-up call for Adam Gant, prompting him to study mortgage markets in a wide array of countries and apply this knowledge to creating innovative new housing solutions in Canada and beyond.
Today, he is celebrated as a thinker and commentator on issues related to the housing finance system. His approach takes into account how central bank strategies, immigration policy and market trends affect the ability of individuals and families to find affordable housing.
Adam Gant serves as an advisor to several real estate groups, including REAfe Advisory, which provides practical solutions to real estate businesses that seek new ways to streamline operations and increase revenues.
REAfe Advisory offers proven guidance in all aspects of real estate acquisition, finance, development and management, including capital structuring and sourcing funding.
Adam Gant is also an active philanthropist who is especially interested in causes related to economic empowerment, human rights and the alleviation of poverty. As a real estate professional, he knows that one of the best ways to eliminate poverty is to help charities that build physical structures, from homes to health facilities.
Live Different is one such charity. The organization works to improve conditions for families in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Mexico. In addition to donating to Live Different, Adam Gant is also a volunteer who works closely with Vaden Earle, the organization’s founder and a popular author.
Another focus of Adam Gant’s philanthropy is The Silhouette Foundation, which mobilized to coordinate relief efforts in the aftermath of the recent earthquake in Haiti.
In his own community, Adam Gant has supported Our Place Society, which is committed to helping people in need in the Vancouver suburb of Victoria. He volunteers at the charity’s inner-city community center serving the working poor, the impoverished elderly, the mentally and physically challenged, and the homeless.
Adam Gant also advised and facilitated a transaction for the Greater Victoria Housing Society for its $2 million dollar acquisition of a 19-unit apartment building that is part of the charity’s local affordable housing program.
Adam Gant is always in motion, in his professional field and beyond. He has trained with the National Rowing Team at their facilities in Victoria. He also enjoys rock climbing, mountain climbing and hiking.
